Equipping your Rock Solid Teen Center While Saving Money

Just about everything on the market is overengineered for our purposes, and thus more expensive than we would like to pay. This is where websites such as Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist can offer significant savings.

Rock Solid Teen Center is all about helping organizations and churches create functional and affordable youth centers. We are determined to help make youth centers a reality for churches, rural communities, and small to mid-sized towns. We emphasize affordability, while not compromising quality.

Recently, our Rock Solid Teen Center (RSTC) Board in North Manchester decided we needed to replace some items. Our computers that run the PowerPoint menu slides had become outdated. Many computers today have a replaceable hard drive. Two of the computers that run the menu slides have a small hard drive (28 GB), that cannot be replaced.

Just about everything on the market is overengineered for our purposes, and thus more expensive than we would like to pay. This is where websites such as Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist can offer significant savings. A used computer with a hard drive of around 100 GBs is easily sufficient. An Intel Celeron is of adequate speed. But if you’re able to locate a used computer with a solid-state drive (SSD), the Celeron processor will seem comparatively fast.

A third computer ran the large-screen TV on which we had our announcement slides and videos, Scripture verses, RSTC rules, sponsors, and other important information. The computer requirements are a bit more demanding but still less than new low-end computers for which you would otherwise pay full price. In this instance, I sold RSTC one of my used computers at a fraction of the price. RSTC saved money on a computer that meets our needs and I was able to use the extra funds to purchase a more upscale computer for myself. Purchasing from friends and acquaintances and requesting donated items, are another way to stretch your dollars.

Rock Solid Teen Center has its own store: Rock Solid Store, and we would love to have you purchase items from our store. It is an Amazon affiliate store, and we feature items that you will likely need to purchase for our teen center. But if you can find similar items used, and in good condition, that’s all the more money you can free up for programming and day-to-day expenses. You can use our Rock Solid Store to guide you in items you should purchase: everything from sound systems, computers, security systems, shelving, refrigerators and freezers, toaster ovens and microwave ovens, board games, video consoles and games, TVs, sports equipment, etc.

In addition to Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist, other sites include OfferUp, Poshmark, eBay, Etsy, Mercari, and Nextdoor. Shopping on these websites can be more time-consuming, as variety and inventory are constantly changing, but for the conscientious shopper, it will be well worth your effort. For more details on these websites, go to LitCommerce.

Have fun shopping!
